Who am I

My whole life I’ve been an active girl with intense project work or management positions and in my spare time I did some volunteering. I loved my life and have been a positive bubbly and bright personality all along! For those curious: I’m Dutch.

But now towards my forties, with long covid, it feels like I don’t have any future. No partner, no kids, no work, no social life…not me! No travels, no sports, no reading books, no going for dinner or making amazing dinners and I do miss my water sports and music sooooo much! All things making me zen in the past, now cause stress big time.

The only thing I sometimes am able to do when I’m out is photography; only when it’s easy to access and not too much bending and crazy postures. Because when not careful I can enjoy the PEM for another 4 days or so.  I will use my photos on this website too 😉

Hands on is baked into my personality so when something happens: I feel, analyse and start looking for a solution. This has always worked! But this long covid thing is different and difficult to grasp. And when hearing and reading stories of other long covid warriors, I still feel grateful for the fact:

  • I’m not in bed 20h of the day because I can’t walk around anymore. I still can do something and do my own groceries, but for me this situation is already a major restriction since I’ll be worn out after.
  • My friends and family are supportive. I’m not alone in this and they didn’t drop me!
  • My GP and actually all my current doctors/therapists are very supportive. I might have to do research myself, but they’re open to listen to it, dive into in and help me try!
  • Enjoying the absolute smallest things like a bird singing, cloud formations, a ray of sun to sit in etc.

Health-related
My bloodwork has always been perfect, my blood pressure has been 120/80 my whole life, and for the last 12 years I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, B12 deficiency and (for the last 7-8 years) food allergies.

By the way, the fibromyalgia has been completely stable with the right diet and lifestyle.
